When something is great, you don’t want to change it. That’s a typical Subaru Outback story, which has been unchanged for decades. These models stick for its original philosophy and it does it great. Therefore, things are pretty familiar, despite the recent redesign. This also leads us to the conclusion that the 2021 Subaru Outback won’t change too much. Moreover, the overall design will definitely remain the same, while the only aspect that could bring novelties is the list of standard features.
The Outback is a perfect familiar car. It offers a spacious and super-practical cabin, while you may count on typical Subaru features, such as AWD layout, Boxer engine and conservative design. However, the recent redesign has brought significant changes on the inside, so the new model looks really impressive from this standpoint. New materials, more tech features and improved driving position make this cabin an extremely nice place to be in.
2021 Subaru Outback Design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2021 Subaru Outback definitely won’t change. If you consider the company’s conservative philosophy, as well as the fact that the current generation has come just recently, it seems obvious that the second production year won’t bring any particular change. The 2021 Subaru Outback will carry on with a familiar layout. Of course, you may count on a typical design that combines station wagon and crossover elements, which makes this car a perfect family machine. On the other side, the recent redesign has brought a completely new platform, which is stiffer, lighter and provides a smoother ride. Also, we should mention that the new model is slightly longer and wider, the overall shape and size are essentially the same as on the previous model.
The same thing refers to styling. Of course, the famous body shape is still here, while Subaru’s new design language brings minor evolutionary changes only. The front face looks pretty much the same as on the recently introduced new-generation Legacy sedan.
This is the aspect where the recent redesign has brought the biggest improvements. Therefore, the new model looks really impressive from the inside. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the dashboard design, which looks really amazing. It utilizes hi-quality materials and deploys pretty impressive aesthetics. One of the highlights is also a new available vertically positioned touchscreen, which is used both for the infotainment system and climate controls. Still, some of the controls remained physical, such as volume control, and that’s one of the things we really appreciate.
Another thing we like about the new model
is that the amount of legroom is even bigger in both rows. When it comes to the
cargo area, you may count on respectable 35.4 cubic feet of space with the
second row up and a maximum of 76.1 cubic feet with the second row folded down.
The 2021 Subaru Outback will carry on the same way.
The 2021 Subaru Outback will probably come with a couple of additions to the list of standard equipment. However, we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. This refers to both tech and safety goodies. When it comes to tech features, base models will carry on a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, satellite radio, USB ports etc. In higher trims, you may count on a new, vertically-positioned 11.6-inch touchscreen, as well as on goodies like remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, a Rockford Fosgate stereo, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo, two rear USB ports, HD Radio, navigation etc.
When it comes to safety features, all
models come standard with things like automatic high beams, rearview camera, adaptive
cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking,
lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. In higher trims, you can also get
blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency
braking, adaptive headlights, driver distraction monitoring, and a front-view
2021 Subaru Outback Engines
Things under the hood definitely won’t change. Therefore, base models will carry on with the recently revisited 2.5-liter engine, which is now good for about 182 horsepower. Higher trims are equipped with a new, pretty peppy turbo-four, which is good for about 260 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come paired with a CVT gearbox. Of course, AWD is standard.
When it comes to fuel economy, things are
pretty typical for the class. The base engine returns around 26 mpg in the city
and 33 mpg, while the optional turbo-four is slightly thirstier and returns
around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg.
2021 Subaru Outback Release Date and Price
Considering that the 2021 Subaru Outback won’t bring any bigger changes, we expect it will hit the market sometime late in the year. The current model starts at around 27.000 dollars and we don’t expect bigger changes in the future.
