One of the most typical things of the current era in the automotive industry is that many manufacturers are trying to get more buyers by reviving old nameplates. This makes perfect sense, considering that a familiar name can always bring a dose of nice memory to older generations, but intrigue youngsters as well. Unfortunately, many of these comebacks actually don’t have too much in common with original models, except for the name. The 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer seems like a perfect example.
In the past, this name was first used for a special version of more familiar Blazer. Soon after, it came as a completely new model, a capable body-on-frame SUV, with amazing off-road performances. The second generation came in a form of Holden Trailblazer and it is also a genuine SUV, based on the current-generation Chevy Colorado. Unfortunately, this model is reserved for the Australian market only.
After many years, the Trailblazer name is coming back to North America. Unfortunately, it won’t have much in common with the original modes, but rather comes as a crossover, a small one. Expect to see it on the market in the second half of the year.
2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer Design
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer is coming as a completely new model. Unlike its predecessors, it will be a crossover. The platform isn’t the only significant change compared to the original. Moreover, this one will be significantly smaller. While the original model was a mid-size SUV, this one will be a subcompact crossover, most likely the company’s new entry-level, as most reports suggest it will replace the current-generation Trax.
Of course, we count on completely new aesthetics as well. There is no doubt the new model will follow the brand’s latest design philosophy, which was introduced last year with the new Blazer. That would mean a lot of sharp lines, which were reserved only for sports cars so far. The new 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer will feature a similar approach to the new Blazer, which means a lot of inspiration from the legendary pony car Camaro. On the other side, the overall shape will be quite boxy, despite that we are actually talking about a crossover. Practically, many see it as a baby-Blazer, a downsized version of the new mid-size SUV. Such a design approach could be very beneficial in terms of practicality and functionality, and it should ensure a pretty spacious and cargo-friendly cabin.
In terms of the legroom, especially in the second row. After all, this is just a subcompact crossover. Two rows of seats and relatively spacious cargo area are what you can count on with this one. On the other side, we are not sure about the final look of the dashboard. Still, given the brand’s reputation, we don’t expect to see some spectacular overall quality, but mostly hard plastics and similar things. Still, the cabin should be equipped pretty well and include all the latest tech features and advanced driver aids.
2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we expect a couple of engines in the offer. The first one that comes to mind is a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four. It delivers around 170 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque, and seems like a perfect choice for this occasion. Still, we believe that base models will come with something smaller and cheaper. That would probably be a 1.4-liter turbo engine, which is good for 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. Finally, don’t be surprised if you see a diesel engine in the offer as well. That should be a 1.6-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 138 hp.
Release Date and Price
Latest reports are suggesting that the 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer should come later in the year and replace the current Trax crossover. The new model is expected to be offered in various parts of the world, including Europe, South America, Asia etc. Details about price are still unavailable.
